Frequently Asked Questions
1. When can I enroll? We take enrollments for each new school year from May 1 – August 1. No enrollments will be accepted after August 1, no exceptions! Current Members can re-enroll beginning on April 1.
2. How can I stay in touch with what the group is doing? Sign up for our Yahoo! Group and/or Facebook Group, and visit our website under the News and Events Page.
3. Does HCS provide curriculum? No. We do not provide curriculum. You can order your choice of curriculum from any number of locations online.
4. When are the meetings? Our 3 mandatory meetings are in August, January, and May. Please watch the Group and the News page on our website to know when these meetings are scheduled. There is also a calendar available. (The meetings are usually are scheduled a month in advance)
5. When are my grades and attendance due? First semester- Jan. 15 Second semester- June 15
6. How many attendance days are required? 160
7. How do I sign up for HSLDA? www.hslda.org
8. What is our HSLDA Group Number? 299129
9. Can I email you my HSLDA number? No. We need a copy of the card and you can email a scanned copy to ashley@hcsdothan.com
10. Is there a deadline to sign up for the Homeschool Online Reporting? Yes. Sept. 1
11. Is there a fee for the Homeschool Online Reporting? Yes. It is included in your tuition.
12. Will you let me know when the SAT testing will be held? Yes. It is usually held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church and I will post dates and ordering info on the website, Facebook page, and Yahoo! Group. You can also check www.we3a.org for information.
13. How can I find out about ACT testing? www.actstudent.org
14. Can I volunteer to help? Sure! We welcome the help and there is a sign-up form on the website under the Volunteer tab. Please only sign up if you are sincerely interested in helping.
15. My child is in high school, am I supposed to keep up with his/her credits or does the school? YOU are responsible for ensuring your child is taking the credits needed to graduate. All required info is located in the Parent Handbook under the Admissions tab on our website.
16. I can’t attend a meeting, is it ok to miss? Our 3 meetings are MANDATORY, however I know that things come up that make it impossible to attend. Please call 334-699-3429 or email ashley@hcsdothan.com in advance with the reason you will need to miss.
17. Is HCS accredited? No. Due to the fact that we are not the ones actually teaching your child, we can not be accredited or issue accredited diplomas.
18. Will that keep my child from getting into college? NO. We offer dual enrollment in Junior and Senior years at Wallace or at Troy. This allows students to get into college classes that will count for both college credit and help with high school credits as well. We offer information for students to get in to take the ACT exam which also is what Colleges look at for entry. Homeschooling is NOT a roadblock for being able to get into College. With hard work on the parents and students parts, there will be no issues.
19. My child is a Senior, where do we order graduation supplies? http://www.homeschooldiploma.com/
Cap and gowns as well as diplomas are ordered through this website. Don't forget your tassels!
20. Does the group have field trips? We are very open to anyone who wants to plan a field trip or get-together. However, we do not require that people attend anything other than the 3 mandatory meetings (see above).
21. Does HCS have a co-op that meets weekly? No. We currently do not offer co-op classes.
